My work offers a human response to how we progress
through life with notions of luck and fate in our
collective consciousness. By combining words with
delicate porcelain chain link and ceramic objects, a
story is woven reflecting what we both lose and gain
at different times in our life. I continue to question
how, why and where we end up in life; is it good
fortune, destiny or the result of choice?
In the past I have added found parts including books,
metal roof tiles and plumb bobs into the artwork to
create a juxtaposition between new and old, ceramic
and cloth, metal and wax. The materials I work with
are paired together creating a dichotomy of textures;
rough with smooth, gooey with clean while sometimes
leaving the mark of my fingers. The visceral quality
of a smooth, silky ceramic texture next to a surface
melting with encaustic offers the viewer another layer
of information, forming multiple meanings in the
artwork.
